Where to Buy Wood Food Photography Backdrops

If you are food photographer or blogger, chances are you drool over all the food photography backdrops on places like Instagram. I know I sure do! I’ve made a couple backgrounds myself, bought a couple as well, but sometimes you see something you aren’t sure how to create or you just love and don’t want to mess with. This is a list of all that hunting & research for the best places to buy wood food photography backdrops.

Some things to note: This list was first created in 2017, and has been updated in 2025. I was sad to find some of the shops I featured have since closed down, but also was happy to see some new ones. Additionally the most notable update is, initially I focused solely on wood backdrops, and now I’ve split the list into three categories: Wood backdrops, Vinyl backdrops, and Digital backdrops. The reason being, the wood backdrops can be cost prohibitive, especially if you want variety (still my preference in general), the other reason being vinyl food photography backdrops have just gotten so good, and you can have a variety without breaking the bank. This list is definitely not exhaustive, but I did my best to curate some of the top shops out there at the moment.

Pricing key: to give you an idea I am using a single $ as a metric for around $50. So if price says $$ – $$$ that means it is around an average of 100-150 for the backgrounds. I grouped these online stores based on location, starting with USA at the top, but keep in mind most if not all ship worldwide and for reasonable prices!

OK, everyone and their mother knows about Erickson Surfaces (previously Wood Works) and for good reason! Beautifully handcrafted boards, large sizes available, huge variety. Also, you can pick another finish for the other side which is great, makes em doublesided. They are drop dead gorgeous. The prices are among the highest in the industry, and the lead time is the longest due to their crazy high demand. But I mean DROOL DROOL DROOL.

  • Location: USA
  • Price: $$$ – $$$$
  • Variety: Available
  • Sizes: Available

Purchase at:  ASPaulJoy

Another popular store. Most if not all the boards are made from recycled pallets and so they all have a “wood” look. They don’t make them double sided either but the wood has so much character. Also, lead time is almost instant which is a huge plus when you need something fast.

  • Location: USA
  • Price: $ – $$
  • Variety: Available
  • Sizes: Available
  • Double Sided: No
  • Lead Time: 1 Day
  • Shipping: USA Only, ~$20

VINYL FOOD PHOTOGRAPHY BACKDROPS

Errer Backdrops

Purchase at: Errer Backdrops

This shop has 200+ vinyl backdrops, and the natural stone textures really pop. I also liked that they donate a portion of proceeds to cat shelters in Greece. I’d love to learn the story behind that. The one thing against them if you’re in the US, is that shipping costs almost as much as the product. Still, they have some unique ones so it may be worth it for a special project.

  • Location: Netherlands
  • Price: $
  • Variety: Available
  • Sizes: Available
  • Double Sided: No
  • Shipping Time: 1-14 days
  • Shipping Worldwide – USA $40

This shop has 400+ vinyl backdrops, what REALLLYY caught my eye was all the cool title design vinyl backdrops they have. Fairly unique, I hadn’t seen those before.

  • Variety: 400+
  • Sizes: Available
  • Double Sided: No

Honestly, I wouldn’t even know how to select just one of any of these boards. I want ALL of them. They are all gorgeous in their own way depending on the mood you want to set. I know next I want a concrete style background and moody dark wood background. Let me know below who you’ve bought from or if you know of any shops, I’m sure I missed some. Happy shopping & drooling 🙂

  1. Woooooot! I knew there was a bit of a market when it comes to food photography props but I had no idea about most of these things you’re referring to here. That is SUCH a useful resource, Mira!!!
Am I the only one here who would like an entire room dedicated to props and photography backdrops? Or a magical suitcase (to be really precise about my lifestyle case)? These are all beautiful!

    1. Haha…I want a magical suitcase, Harry Potter style. I think I would turn the whole house into a photography studio if I could. I know what you mean, I want all the colors…everything.

  2. Wow, you did tons of research! I love discovering new places to buy backdrops. Right now I just purchase off of Amazon but they don’t have too many options that I like or that fit my style. Thanks for the great post 🙂

    1. Yes, yes I did, not gonna lie, it took some time and i couldn’t hit publish until I felt like it was PURRRRFECT. Ocd much? LOL. Yes, there are other options (coming in a later post), but those are more cookie cutter, and you don’t get the gorgeous colors, textures and uniqueness of a hand made board!

  3. I want ALL OF THEM. They are so beautiful! It sucks that not all of them deliver outside the States but I will definitely check out the ones that do!

  4. We are so much pleased to be a part of this review and get this inspiring feedback from you. Many thanks for the work done, it’s a great help for the food community to have all the opportunities listed in one overview.

    Woodville team.

    1. It’s fun making your own sometimes, and sometimes you just want a certain look, so I get it! Thanks for reading along.

  6. Love Erickson Woodworks! I bought my first one last December and use it constantly. But you’re so right – it is quite pricey! I am glad to know I have other options!

    1. They are gorgeous though! Btw, I updated the post with a coupon code they gave me for my readers, so 10% off helps 😉

  7. Thanks for sharing all these sites. I’ve only heard of couple of them, so it’s exciting to check out the others. They all have beautiful products.

  8. Wow, wow, wow! Those are all such gorgeous photos or boards, props and food! I haven’t heard of many of these companies, only Erikson Woodworks. I need to save up some money for another purchase!

    1. I know…so pretty! I updated the post to include a 10% off coupon to the Erickson Wood Workshop…cuz they are awesome like that…happy shopping!
